When we told you about our values at Prior Law, the first of these was ‘transparency’, which applies equally to the way in which we charge our clients. Nobody likes surprises when it comes to money.
Our fees are charged at either an hourly rate or at an agreed fixed price. Occasionally we will be able to act for clients on a retainer basis, depending on the nature of the work we will be doing. We will send you an ‘engagement letter’ when you instruct us to act for you, which will set out how you will be charged and the expected price range. However, we are not fortune-tellers and sometimes we will only be able to estimate the costs that might be incurred, depending on what happens after we have started working but the goalposts change. We will always keep you informed if we expect our estimate to be exceeded.
Although they may initially look attractive to clients, we do not offer no win no fee deals, as they are rarely to a client’s advantage and can end up being much more expensive than conventional charging structures.
